NEW WEBSITE!!!

My new FLASH portfolio website is up and running and boy does it look good. If looks could kill. Took me like 3 days to finish. Took some video tutorials and just tackled it. Still need to fix some things. But I look forward to filling it up with some more news content soon.

Celebration

What do you guys think? Spectrum, Communication Design; is this one worth submitting. We'll see what happens. I have my doubts. But I'm optimistic.

I don't understand why blogger bumps up the brightness when I upload my images. Something is up with their compressing process. The piece's colors are much richer than this.

Test

Doing some experimentation. I have to find a medium that is effective soon because I gotta start workin on my clothing line already. I used basic photoshop brushes. Did this lion as a study for a piece a while back. It was a descent drawing so I just decided to test out some coloring on it.

Clothing Line Ad

I was gonna do gouache but changed my mind last minute. Decided to go digital. My best hits seem to be with oils, so that's what my next piece is going to be done in.

This piece is suppose to be an ad for my clothing line launching in May 2010.

New sketch

This is a drawing I did for another gouache test. I'm gonna do it with my instructor on thursday so I'll have some guidance this time around. In any event, scanned this one in just in case. The last test I did destroyed my drawing.

Lincoln Road Mall

Did this sketch from inside a Starbucks on Linoln and Meridian. I love this place. The breeze, the restaurants, the beautiful women. Nothing beats Miami Beach. I took a picture of it just in case I wanted to hit it up with some gouache afterward.

I finished my last sketch for the Tata Gala piece. It's coming out great! The composition is just how I like it. I'm gonna start value studies next weekend. The show is November so I got plenty of time. I'll upload the sketches and everything when I finish the piece.

Also, I might post up some sneak peaks at the new shirt design I'm working on for my clothing line.

Jigga Who?

Can't wait to get this album. There's already like two tracks on it that I'm feelin. No not the one with Kanye and Rihanna. I did this drawing to test out some gouache on it. I made sure I scanned in Shawn Carter first, of course. I tried it out in Corel Painter first, but it lags too much.

New Logo Design for BET's 106 & Park Freestyle Champion

Fatigue - Paid All Day (106 & Park)

Fatigue : Music Video : Paid All Day

I was approached on Myspace by this MCEE called Fatigue. He needed an insignia, so I cooked this up within a week. I must've given him like 3 logos until he finally saw the one that he liked. Wasn't too much trouble. I just drew an eye, traced it in illustrator and then just copied it and inverted it.

The concept behind the eyes was that they were suppose to be 2 Fs (Fly Flow Entertainment). I tried making them look more like letters, but it wasn't working. So I just suggested the concept in the typography.

Throwback poster (Rough Draft)

This is my poster for the Throwback show this September at Ringling College. There might be some changes so I'm calling this a rough draft.

Blaxploitation (in progress)

Wanted to give a lil sneak peak at the poster for the Throwback show. I really gotta speed this baby up.

Faithful Sundays

Recently I've been promoting a bar/lounge/art gallery in downtown Miami. Redbar Gallery. Our first night didn't go so well. Fathers Day played a factor in our demise. But hopefully we will get a bigger crowd this Sunday.

This is the flyer I designed for it. I'm the Graphic Designer of my entertainment group, Smoke & Miras. The stock photo was cheap. 5 bucks at stockxpert.com. All the other popular stock photo joints wanted to rape me with 50 bucks.

Coming Soon

This is a reference photo for a poster illo I'm doing for the Throwback show coming this fall. Isn't she lovely? Isn't she beautiful? I'm currently working on the drawing. I'll hopefully start the painting sometime this week. Oops! Almost forgot the value and color studies. Maybe, this week.

The mailing list script was a pain!

Sike!

"A man must live in the country he interprets. He can only interpret the country in which he was born and where his people lived before him"
-N.C. Wyeth

This is my heaven piece. My teacher was gracious enough to give me more time on it, so I decided to finish it. I am so glad that it's all over. I did a lot of rendering on this piece. Not all of it is great rendering how I would like, but there was just so many elements to cover. I'm not sure if I wanna be as crazy as Rockwell and lay out mad elements. That's one of the reasons why I wanna get away from narrative pieces.

But basically the concept is an idea of heaven where it's a Saturday afternoon and all the neighbors are outside their balconies interacting with each other.

Oh yeah, and if you ever start talking the way I was talking in this video, put down the brushes and take a BREAK! I don't know what I was on. Must have been the fumes from the oils.

Fechin Hands

Mission Aborted

Wassup, I just had to do it cuz I just don't have the time. It's way too much detail, way too many elements to render. I should consider all this while pitching ideas to an art director. I mean I would've loved to finish it. But I have to do another illo due thursday as well. I just wish we could get assigned ONE piece and focus on that one. I'm kinda not liking theres 'series' assignments. But I think I'm getting a good grip on oils.

Comfort is another issue I had. This painting was huge and I had to work top to bottom and back and forth. So sitting down and standing up and having a few close calls with the painting almost tipping over, made the process more frustrating and restless. Next time I'll try to make myself more comfortable and organized.

Repin Study

So this is my master copy of Ilya Repin's "Shevstov". I had fun with it and I learned a lot. Watching Shawn Barber's demo at Ringling really helped me out on this as well since I applied what I learned there here.

I used a projector to trace the drawing onto the canvas panel.

This is the original. Way BETTER than mines. Ha. I don't expect to paint like Repin in one semester, let alone A LIFETIME!

Heaven Peak

Here's a sneak peak for my heaven piece. Hopefully it will be done in time. My teacher gave us more time on it. Can't wait to finish it. I've worked so hard on process.

Frankenstein

I don't think I've ever posted this one. It was for last year's Halloween. Oil on Canvas.

Last Prayers

This is the other piece I did for ESCR. I learned a lot on this one. I went back and read a couple chapters on composition and critical thinking from "Launching the Imagination" (Great book!). Never really gave it much attention freshman year but have grown to appreciate it since it's given me better critical thinking and compositional skills. Which I have applied here. Technique wise, I just don't know. I tried ink and gouache. I don't mind the medium, I guess I gotta do it more often to get better at it. Aiight yo, -Peace

The Harvest

Man oh man oh man. I am exhausted. A full body massage from two Thai girls wouldn't hurt right about now. I tried doing this piece in the Bayou Studios, but what a pain it is to walk back and forth from the studio to my dorm. I'm painting in the dorm next time.

I actually came up with this idea a year ago as a concept for Orion's album art. The last two sketches above were drawn a year ago in February. However, it was a 'no go' so we went for the vaccination illo. This idea popped into my mind again when I was assigned to do an illustration on a current event. This assignment was meant for the illustrator to make a statement about any issue confronting us today. I decided to go with the controversial topic of Embryonic Stem Cell Research which has a lot of people heated up.

I would say that the painting took about 12 hours. I'm happy with it. Hopefully it'll get in the Best of Ringling. Hopefully I'll get in ANYTHING into the Best of Ringling.

Patty Boop

Wassup bloggers. Did this Nicolai Fechin study and tried to apply it to a portrait I did for my friend Patty. I drew her as Betty Boop cuz she looks like Betty Boop. So her names Patty Boop.

But yo, I love the way this dude Fechin draws his facial features. The way he does his eyes, nose, and lips is slick. Lot of long smooth lines. I definitly had fun studying his drawing. Repin is kool and all, but Fechin definilty has more interesting line work drawing wise. Expect to see some more Fechin in my sketchbook. I haven't really drawn from life lately. Been dying to but since I'm in school right now, I don't get out much so I've been doing a lot of book work.

Peace!

Springbreak Repin Studies

Wassup bloggers. Over the break I was mad busy, but I was able to find some time to do some copies from Repin's paintings. This guy is off the hook.
